Possibly the best guitar purchase ever for the money. The strap and case alone are worth $50 easy. Literally the only guitar I've ever bought that doesn't need set up. Great feel, weight distribution, and and tone. My honest takeaways, whammy bar is not the best. Tuners are not top quality. This is to be expected for the price. Pickups are satisfactory. Look and finish are impressive. No buyers remorse. I've probably earned y'all a few customers. People we're guessing this guitar cost me 900+. I'm impressed to say the least!

I didn’t immediately fall in love with this guitar. I am already the owner of two Enya ukuleles and two Enya guitars, and each of them has deeply impressed me right from the start with its quality,  value, and, above all, with its innovative design and features, so I was expecting more of the same. The XMari is attractive enough and very practical but it does not immediately stand out from the crowd.  My other Enya instruments all address niches where few other instruments compete but (temporarily ignoring the built in electronics) this one goes more or less head to head with virtually every other electric guitar on the market. There is one thing, though, that makes this amazing. Though it does have some minor flaws, that I will describe below, this is a phenomenal amount of instrument for the money: in fact, I think the primary innovation in this guitar lies less in the instrument itself, more in the fact that Enya managed to make and sell something so good at this price. I reckon it is significantly better than most electric guitars I have owned or played at two or three times the price, and not too far off a much more expensive instrument. For a mass-produced, cheap guitar that is reassuringly mainstream in its design, it is extremely well made, very versatile, and it sounds great. I think it will make a great gigging guitar. Unlike most of Enya’s other carbon fibre models, the neck is made of wood,  with a smooth satin finish and fingerboard that seems to be some kind of resin/paper composite. The latter is actually very tough, very smooth, with a look and feel that would be easy to mistake for rosewood or even ebony, without the environmental concerns or cost of the real thing.  The neck extends down to the body and provides most of the tone, which is quite soft and mellow, with excellent sustain. I have been very happy with the carbon fibre necks of my other Enya instruments and I love how they look but this just feels a lot nicer: it’s warmer, smoother, and more inviting. It makes sense acoustically, too. The machine heads are nothing to write home about: they are not at all bad, but they are not ideal on an instrument with a tremolo arm, and not as precise as I’d like. I intend to change those for locking heads at the earliest opportunity. The bridge is conventional,  typical of this style of guitar, and highly adjustable per string. It has a removable tremolo arm that does the job but should be used sparingly unless you change the machine heads and maybe a bit of lube to the touch-points of the strings: I've already had two different strings break at the bridge, having failed to do that. The tremolo springs are very easily adjusted using the same provided tool that adjusts the neck, and seem fairly solid, but don’t try to use heavy gauge strings: with jazz lights (11 at the top) it has to be screwed right up to the neck just to keep the bridge more or less in place, and it is still lifting slightly. I’ve switched now to 10 at the top, which seems just fine. I imagine that most buyers of a guitar like this will prefer lighter strings anyway. The pickups - one humbucker and two single coils - provide a lot of tonal variety and work well, with minimal noise and an even response, though they are not adjustable per string. Neck and bridge are easily adjustable with the provided tools. Although it arrived almost ready to play, the neck tension was set to a neutral position, not tightened either way, so the action was quite high.  It was easy to adjust this, though, and it now plays very easily. The frets are consistent, polished, with no sharp edges, well set into the fretboard. There is no zero’th fret,  but I don’t particularly miss it. The guitar is relatively light for a Stratocaster-style instrument, largely due to the carbon fibre-reinforced plastic used for the body, which appears to be partially hollow. It’s reassuringly tough and attractive, like that used in other Enya instruments, which I’ve found to be *extremely* sturdy, with a pleasing matte finish. It's definitely not a semi-acoustic but I think the hollow-ish body does provide a hint of twang and some body to the sound that is normally lacking in this style of guitar, without harming the sustain. The built-in effects are a signature Enya feature and they are fun to play with. Like most Enya instruments, it relies on the Enya cellphone app to make adjustments to the available sounds. I have mainly negative feelings about this: the flexibility is great as long as the updates keep coming (and Enya has seemed to keep the app up to date for at least the last 3 years) but it sucks for long-term longevity, and I very much resent the need to log in just to tweak the equalization of the guitar. I have instruments that are over 100 years old that are still great, but I’d be surprised if this (or at least my ability to change its settings) will manage more than a decade. To be fair, the worst case scenario is that I will be stuck with whatever effects were set at the time the app no longer works so it won’t be the end of the world but it's an almost inevitable flaw. I would feel a *lot* better about it if Enya released the code or at least the specs for communicating with the guitar as open source, so future-proofing it forever and maybe creating a self-sustaining hackable ecosystem that would contribute nicely to the innovative image Enya has cultivated. Any chance of that, Enya? The app offers two amp models and 5 flexible but rather mainstream effects (equalizer, modulation, noise reduction, delay, and reverb) for each of the 4 presets. Presets are selected, as with all Enya electronic instruments, by clicking the volume knob, with a ring light that changes colour according to the preset chosen. Like other Enya instruments, two of the ring light colours are blue, making it hard to know for sure which one is selected: perhaps it is for the benefit of the colour blind but I am pretty sure they could none-the-less have found four colours that were more distinct. Unfortunately, the button sometimes requires more than one click before the effect changes, which makes it difficult to trust in a live context. I don’t think this is a mechanical problem:  I suspect that whatever processor Enya is using is a little underpowered compared with those used in their more expensive instruments and it is simply not registering the click. My suspicions are amplified by the fact that, when played through headphones, the effects seem to be disappointingly coarsely digitized. This doesn’t matter on the distortion settings but it is particularly obvious on the echo and reverb settings, that fade in a weirdly mechanical way, almost as though the guitar has a slightly tickly throat. The reverb sounds particularly unnatural as it fades away, almost robotic. It’s fine for casual jamming and it is not noticeable when played through an external amplifier so it may be at least partly to do with the pre-amp rather than the effects themselves. I have also found it very difficult to find a simple, flat setting with no effects. This could be an issue if you want to use it for direct recording. The good news is that, if you are playing through an external amp, then you don’t need to turn the electronics on at all, and that’s the way I am mostly using it. Without internal power, it works exactly like a traditional electric guitar, with a very pleasing full, warm tone, two tone knobs, and a standard (solid, quiet) 5-position selector switch to pick your preferred pickup combination. Of course, you cannot use headphones in this mode, but the sound quality is excellent: clean and quiet, a little sweet. The video I’m including with this review uses the plain, unadorned sounds of the pickup, played through a Bose S1 Pro+, recorded using the built-in iPhone mics so it may not do the guitar justice. (update: Enya wouldn't accept the upload and YouTube didn't like my first attempt - apparently a copyright issue - so I've added a different one at https://youtu.be/2vpWey9plkQ ). I do like the fact that I can practice with nothing but headphones and the guitar, and it is good to have the option to use the effects live but, if you care about every last bit of quality (especially when recording) then I think you may want to use proper effects pedals or whatever is available in your DAW. If you do make use of the built-in effects, the battery life seems very good: you can play for many hours without a recharge, but it is nice to know that it will still work as an electric guitar even if the battery does run flat. It is worth mentioning that the rechargeable battery looks very standard and, even if Enya no longer offer replacements, it should not be too difficult to swap it out if and when it stops taking a charge. A bonus feature is that you can feed it with a bluetooth signal if you like, which might be useful if you want to jam to a recording but (given it has no speaker) is otherwise a bit superfluous. The guitar comes with a soft gig bag, basic webbing strap, spare strings, picks, lead, charging cable, and tools for making adjustments, none of which are particularly awesome, but there’s everything you are likely to need from the get-go. I’ve already replaced the strap (and strings!),  I want to replace the machine heads, and I will probably seek a better case if I wind up needing to carry it around more than occasionally.  It will still be excellent value for the money after all that. The gig bag it comes with is not too bad at all - it has a little padding, some useful straps and handles, and a handy pocket - but it is not up to the very high standard set by three out of four of my other Enya cases and gig bags . I’ve included a picture of what came with it when it arrived, fresh out of the box. I think the X Mari is aimed at a quite different market than most of the Enya range, and that is a good thing. It is best thought of as a very conventional, well-made electric guitar that, as a bonus, also includes a built-in headphone amp, digital out, and decent range of effects, at a really attractive budget price point. Yes, it cuts corners here and there, but none where it actually matters. It is very playable, it sounds great, and it looks good. I have only had it for a couple of weeks and I don’t know how I’ll feel when the novelty wears off, but I am enjoying it a lot. It probably won’t replace the NexG 2 as my main guitar because it is nothing like as versatile, but it fills in gaps that the acoustic-like NexG cannot reach. Enya do make a couple of electric guitars with built-in amps and speakers that look far better competitors for the NexG (that I cannot afford: Enya, if you’re listening, I would be *really* interested in reviewing one of those!) but they cost quite a bit more and, for a gigging workhorse of an electric guitar that will take a bit of punishment yet still sound great, this one is hard to beat. Full disclosure: Enya have offered to pay for this guitar in exchange for an honest review. I acknowledge that this may have introduced an unconscious bias, and it has certainly led to a longer review than I'd otherwise give, but I have tried not to let it influence my judgment of its strengths and weaknesses at all.

It shipped after one day of makeing the payment. Tracking was accurate t9 the minute it landed on the front porch.........and It looks good and played good straight out the box.........I got mine for about 200$ US dollars and the value for that price point is fucking unheard of......the effects and Bluetooth are flawless so far and the only thing I had to change was the strings mainly because that first week I never put the fuckin thing down.........super glad I pulled the trigger on this new guitar.......hats off to enya for more "head " bang for the bucks........if your on the fence you wanna land on enyas side they've created a monster deal for the player who wants it all in a sleek, sexy little number with the xmari carbon fiber flamethrower.........I usually dont write long reviews but thought I should share my enthusiasm for this screamer deal.

This was such a journey of mixed feelings. I jumped to order this guitar when you announced it, and have been waiting with barely restrained joy anticipating it. Then the delivery service got difficult, delays not related to weather, my address getting an exception, but they've delivered here often, it just seemed like something was keeping it away. It was frustrating! But finally, it arrived! Late, but it's here! I met the delivery driver in the driveway, I was so glad to see if arriving. I gently unpacked it, got it the stand I bought for it, and my practice amp, and plugged it in. The first note, still way out of tune, not yet tuned up from the trip, and my heart sang. I made sure the app would connect, experimented with the presets -- still not tuned, but I didn't care! -- and I can finally sit down and learn this new instrument. It's my first electric guitar. It's such a rush!

Highest Tickle Factor of any electric guitar I own! The Tickle Factor is the immediate tactile feedback a player gets from playing their instruments. The construction of the Xmari E-SP1 with its one piece Maple neck, Richlite (synthetic Ebony) fretboard, stainless steel frets, and cleverly designed carbon fiber body all sync up in unison to make this guitar sing! Sustain is fabulous when the on board preamp and effects are on or not!! The bolt on, 22 fret Maple neck tapers from 43mm at the nut to just 52mm at the body, and has a 10” radius Richlite fretboard making it very comfortable to play. It was playable right out of the box, but I suggest getting it set up. All mine needed was a truss rod adjustment and raising the pickups for optimal performance. All the tools, except the screw driver for the pickups, come with the guitar. After the adjustments, the string tension was such that a pitch bend of a major third feels easy. The only negative came in unwrapping the E-SP1. The protective plastic, covering the pickups and pick guard was pinned underneath the pick guard and left tiny pieces flapping in the wind. I just loosened the pick guard screws around the pinned plastic, and used a tweezers to pull them out, and retightened the pick guard. None of the Enya foot switches, that I have, will interface with the E-SP1. Having multiple effects and a preamp built in, the feel factors, an App that gives lessons and jam tracks, a package with free tools, cables, strings, picks, soft gig bag and a strap with a very clever locking system, make this an incredible deal. The Tickle Factor makes this a collector's guitar.

First thing's first, this Enya XMARI is SWEET! It feels great in the hands, it's comfortable to hold, and the playability is dynamite. I'm a rock and roll/metal guy, so I managed to get some mega-chunky riffage right off the bat. Secondly, I want to say I would not hesitate to gig with this axe. I will bring it with me for my next gig. That's because of the quick and effective ways I can change tones and add effects, at the pouch of a button. The simplicity of play and ease of dialing in tones makes it a no-brainer on the stage. Keep in mind, I'm not playing in sold out stadiums, but smaller venues where it's easier to hear all the instruments separately. Favorite things? I can plug into headphones and play quietly while the family is sleeping. I can change up distortion and reverb with the push of a button! I can plug into any of my amps and dial in whatever I want with zero issues. This is a dream for beginners and intermediate players, but I totally think pros would find many uses for the XMARI as well, from noodling and practice, to even some studio work. Don't be fooled by the price point, or that is mostly carbon fiber, this guitar is a BEAST! So happy I have one... GREAT WORK ENYA! This thing's a huge winner!

Overall, the Xmari is a fantastic guitar. I love the 4 presets and I've adjusted them using the app. I have the app on my android phone and on my iPad. Being able to plug in headphones and "tinker" is a huge plus for me. My wife plays piano (she has a Roland keyboard) and I play guitar. We play together, but I can practice in silence, so that's nice. My only gripe? Enya should have included a proper charger. I can only charge my Xmari with a 65w charger than belongs to one of my portable touchscreen computers. I have tried 4 other chargers and even bought a 40w that I thought would work. It does not. I know I'm not the only person expressing disapointment about the charging issues. Fix it. Include a charger.

Unfortunately, the button sometimes requires more than one click before the effect changes, which makes it difficult to trust in a live context. I don’t think this is a mechanical problem:  I suspect that whatever processor Enya is using is a little underpowered compared with those used in their more expensive instruments and it is simply not registering the click. My suspicions are amplified by the fact that, when played through headphones, the effects seem to be disappointingly coarsely digitized. This doesn’t matter on the distortion settings but it is particularly obvious on the echo and reverb settings, that fade in a weirdly mechanical way, almost as though the guitar has a slightly tickly throat. The reverb sounds particularly unnatural as it fades away, almost robotic. It’s fine for casual jamming and it is not noticeable when played through an external amplifier so it may be at least partly to do with the pre-amp rather than the effects themselves. I have also found it very difficult to find a simple, flat setting with no effects. This could be an issue if you want to use it for direct recording. The good news is that, if you are playing through an external amp, then you don’t need to turn the electronics on at all, and that’s the way I am mostly using it. Without internal power, it works exactly like a traditional electric guitar, with a very pleasing full, warm tone, two tone knobs, and a standard (solid, quiet) 5-position selector switch to pick your preferred pickup combination. Of course, you cannot use headphones in this mode, but the sound quality is excellent: clean and quiet, a little sweet. The video I’m including with this review uses the plain, unadorned sounds of the pickup, played through a Bose S1 Pro+, recorded using the built-in iPhone mics so it may not do the guitar justice. (update: Enya wouldn't accept the upload and YouTube didn't like my first attempt - apparently a copyright issue - so I've added a different one at https://youtu.be/2vpWey9plkQ ). I do like the fact that I can practice with nothing but headphones and the guitar, and it is good to have the option to use the effects live but, if you care about every last bit of quality (especially when recording) then I think you may want to use proper effects pedals or whatever is available in your DAW. If you do make use of the built-in effects, the battery life seems very good: you can play for many hours without a recharge, but it is nice to know that it will still work as an electric guitar even if the battery does run flat. It is worth mentioning that the rechargeable battery looks very standard and, even if Enya no longer offer replacements, it should not be too difficult to swap it out if and when it stops taking a charge. A bonus feature is that you can feed it with a bluetooth signal if you like, which might be useful if you want to jam to a recording but (given it has no speaker) is otherwise a bit superfluous. The guitar comes with a soft gig bag, basic webbing strap, spare strings, picks, lead, charging cable, and tools for making adjustments, none of which are particularly awesome, but there’s everything you are likely to need from the get-go. I’ve already replaced the strap (and strings!),  I want to replace the machine heads, and I will probably seek a better case if I wind up needing to carry it around more than occasionally.  It will still be excellent value for the money after all that. The gig bag it comes with is not too bad at all - it has a little padding, some useful straps and handles, and a handy pocket - but it is not up to the very high standard set by three out of four of my other Enya cases and gig bags . I’ve included a picture of what came with it when it arrived, fresh out of the box. I think the X Mari is aimed at a quite different market than most of the Enya range, and that is a good thing. It is best thought of as a very conventional, well-made electric guitar that, as a bonus, also includes a built-in headphone amp, digital out, and decent range of effects, at a really attractive budget price point. Yes, it cuts corners here and there, but none where it actually matters. It is very playable, it sounds great, and it looks good. I have only had it for a couple of weeks and I don’t know how I’ll feel when the novelty wears off, but I am enjoying it a lot. It probably won’t replace the NexG 2 as my main guitar because it is nothing like as versatile, but it fills in gaps that the acoustic-like NexG cannot reach. Enya do make a couple of electric guitars with built-in amps and speakers that look far better competitors for the NexG (that I cannot afford: Enya, if you’re listening, I would be *really* interested in reviewing one of those!) but they cost quite a bit more and, for a gigging workhorse of an electric guitar that will take a bit of punishment yet still sound great, this one is hard to beat. Full disclosure: Enya have offered to pay for this guitar in exchange for an honest review. I acknowledge that this may have introduced an unconscious bias, and it has certainly led to a longer review than I'd otherwise give, but I have tried not to let it influence my judgment of its strengths and weaknesses at all.

It shipped after one day of makeing the payment. Tracking was accurate t9 the minute it landed on the front porch.........and It looks good and played good straight out the box.........I got mine for about 200$ US dollars and the value for that price point is fucking unheard of......the effects and Bluetooth are flawless so far and the only thing I had to change was the strings mainly because that first week I never put the fuckin thing down.........super glad I pulled the trigger on this new guitar.......hats off to enya for more "head " bang for the bucks........if your on the fence you wanna land on enyas side they've created a monster deal for the player who wants it all in a sleek, sexy little number with the xmari carbon fiber flamethrower.........I usually dont write long reviews but thought I should share my enthusiasm for this screamer deal.

This was such a journey of mixed feelings. I jumped to order this guitar when you announced it, and have been waiting with barely restrained joy anticipating it. Then the delivery service got difficult, delays not related to weather, my address getting an exception, but they've delivered here often, it just seemed like something was keeping it away. It was frustrating! But finally, it arrived! Late, but it's here! I met the delivery driver in the driveway, I was so glad to see if arriving. I gently unpacked it, got it the stand I bought for it, and my practice amp, and plugged it in. The first note, still way out of tune, not yet tuned up from the trip, and my heart sang. I made sure the app would connect, experimented with the presets -- still not tuned, but I didn't care! -- and I can finally sit down and learn this new instrument. It's my first electric guitar. It's such a rush!

Highest Tickle Factor of any electric guitar I own! The Tickle Factor is the immediate tactile feedback a player gets from playing their instruments. The construction of the Xmari E-SP1 with its one piece Maple neck, Richlite (synthetic Ebony) fretboard, stainless steel frets, and cleverly designed carbon fiber body all sync up in unison to make this guitar sing! Sustain is fabulous when the on board preamp and effects are on or not!! The bolt on, 22 fret Maple neck tapers from 43mm at the nut to just 52mm at the body, and has a 10” radius Richlite fretboard making it very comfortable to play. It was playable right out of the box, but I suggest getting it set up. All mine needed was a truss rod adjustment and raising the pickups for optimal performance. All the tools, except the screw driver for the pickups, come with the guitar. After the adjustments, the string tension was such that a pitch bend of a major third feels easy. The only negative came in unwrapping the E-SP1. The protective plastic, covering the pickups and pick guard was pinned underneath the pick guard and left tiny pieces flapping in the wind. I just loosened the pick guard screws around the pinned plastic, and used a tweezers to pull them out, and retightened the pick guard. None of the Enya foot switches, that I have, will interface with the E-SP1. Having multiple effects and a preamp built in, the feel factors, an App that gives lessons and jam tracks, a package with free tools, cables, strings, picks, soft gig bag and a strap with a very clever locking system, make this an incredible deal. The Tickle Factor makes this a collector's guitar.

First thing's first, this Enya XMARI is SWEET! It feels great in the hands, it's comfortable to hold, and the playability is dynamite. I'm a rock and roll/metal guy, so I managed to get some mega-chunky riffage right off the bat. Secondly, I want to say I would not hesitate to gig with this axe. I will bring it with me for my next gig. That's because of the quick and effective ways I can change tones and add effects, at the pouch of a button. The simplicity of play and ease of dialing in tones makes it a no-brainer on the stage. Keep in mind, I'm not playing in sold out stadiums, but smaller venues where it's easier to hear all the instruments separately. Favorite things? I can plug into headphones and play quietly while the family is sleeping. I can change up distortion and reverb with the push of a button! I can plug into any of my amps and dial in whatever I want with zero issues. This is a dream for beginners and intermediate players, but I totally think pros would find many uses for the XMARI as well, from noodling and practice, to even some studio work. Don't be fooled by the price point, or that is mostly carbon fiber, this guitar is a BEAST! So happy I have one... GREAT WORK ENYA! This thing's a huge winner!

Overall, the Xmari is a fantastic guitar. I love the 4 presets and I've adjusted them using the app. I have the app on my android phone and on my iPad. Being able to plug in headphones and "tinker" is a huge plus for me. My wife plays piano (she has a Roland keyboard) and I play guitar. We play together, but I can practice in silence, so that's nice. My only gripe? Enya should have included a proper charger. I can only charge my Xmari with a 65w charger than belongs to one of my portable touchscreen computers. I have tried 4 other chargers and even bought a 40w that I thought would work. It does not. I know I'm not the only person expressing disapointment about the charging issues. Fix it. Include a charger.

Really cool guitar. Great effects and App. Wish they included a charging block-they do provide a cable though. Just that it’s USB C on both ends and many-including me-don’t have a block like that.
